My 1 year old Husky/Lab mix began to shed profusely a few days ago. In NE Ohio weather is this normal?

I've never had a large dog, or a lon haired breed, but I've been around them. This seems very excessive to me and very abrupt as well. Should I be concerned? Is there a dietary supplement, or food that might help reduce this?
