Doing this at age 5...help!?

How fast they grow. My son is 6 now, but has always been independent. On his first day of Kindergarten, he wouldn't let me walk him to the clroom, he said, "No thanks, Mom, I got this." I don't think the kids are embarred by us (yet!), I think they are trying to show the other kids that they are not babies, they are grown up and can do it on their own.
