Boy Question How do I know if he likes me?

When I am in homeroom at school this boy I think is cute keeps staring at me. When I look at him he turns away. Does he like me? We never really talk but I have him for history too. I really don't pay attention if he stares at me in history. I have a dance coming up should I have a friend ask him who he likes or should I wait? I feel weird talking to him because I don't know what to say, how do I start a conversation. And these past two days I have had dreams about him asking me out or asking me to be his boyfriend what does this mean. Please answer? Anything will do. I've gotten him to laugh a couple of times and then from then on he just looks at me? Should a girl ask a guy out or is it the other way.
